Rebecka Sofia Ahvenniemi
Rebecka Sofia Ahvenniemi is a composer, philosopher, writer, activist, and feminist based in Bergen. In many of her works Rebecka has applied elements like breath and articulation, and focused on a gestural or timbral quality of the sound in both vocal and instrumental sounds. In recent years she has started to explore a contextual approach to music, questioning the spaces and rituals related to the process of composing, performing, and listening.
Ode to a Tree - for BB clarinet and voice as fixed sound files (2016)
The voice focuses on elements that might seem archaic: vowels and bounces from chest voice to head voice. The distance to the singer as the origin of the voice brings us closer to the presence of the sounds as gestures, and the way in which the voice and clarinet interact.
