Daníel Bjarnason

Icelandic conductor, curator and composer Daníel Bjarnason is Composer-in-residence at the Muziekgebouw Frits Philips Eindhoven. Bjarnason’s recent commissions include a Percussion Concerto for Martin Grubinger commissioned by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and a Violin Concerto for Pekka Kuusisto, co-commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Bjarnason is published by Peters Edition.

Over Light Earth - for orchestra (2013)

Commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Barbican, London, Daníel Bjarnason composed Over Light Earth in Spring/Summer 2013 in Reykjavik and the work was premiered on 16 October 2013 in Los Angeles by the LA Phil New Music Group conducted by John Adams. It was inspired by paintings by Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock.
